A decade of building community with San Francisco families. This is where most of my research questions come from.

Wild Roots

A nature play group for mixed-age kids, about 2 to 12, that has met every week since 2015. At its height it had about 25 active families. We share responsibility, look out for each other's kids, and support each other as parents.

  • Helped co-found Wild Roots Forest School, a parent-run co-op preschool that served 10+ families over five years. Families interviewed and hired the teacher.
  • Helped write community standards grounded in social emotional learning and social justice
  • Making an illustrated plant field guide with the kids, one plant each month

Monroe Elementary

I've been part of the Monroe PTA since 2021. On the School Site Council, I translate school data into plain language and share it with families through the PTA and school channels, and I work to bring as many parents into those decisions as I can.

  • Organized food drives during school breaks reaching 50 families, a coat drive for 100+ kids, and a free clothing rack outside the school
  • Organized families during the SFUSD teachers' strike, including childcare rotations
  • Coordinated 10 neighborhood volunteers for a before- and after-school immigrant protection watch; completed rapid response trainings and handed out know-your-rights red cards
  • Advocate for interpretation at meetings and create translated materials, working closely with the school's Spanish- and Cantonese-speaking family liaisons
  • Track engagement with sign-ups, counts, and surveys, and plan more interactive meetings when families drop off

Solarpunk SF public schools

A poster series imagining San Francisco public schools as they could be. One poster takes on Prop 13 and state school funding. Another shows a budget meeting where half the seats are filled by kids.
